Rustler's Restaurant

Dutch oven dinners and trout, 11 miles from the canyon

About

Rustler's Restaurant anchors Main Street in Tropic, the small farming community 11 miles east of Bryce Canyon's entrance on UT-12. It's one of the more substantive dining options in the immediate park corridor — open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a menu that goes well beyond the burgers-and-fries baseline most gateway-town restaurants stick to. The cowboy-themed dining room and outdoor patio with views toward the Paunsaugunt Plateau set the tone.

Menu Highlights

The kitchen covers American, Mexican, BBQ, pasta, steaks, and seafood. A few standout items: the Dutch oven Cowboy Dinner (BBQ chicken tenders, Dutch oven potatoes, baked beans, cornbread muffin), Ruby Red trout lightly seasoned and finished with lemon, and a flame-broiled burger topped with BBQ sauce, cheddar, and deep-fried onion rings. Rustler's is well regarded locally for its trout and seafood, which is worth noting given how landlocked the region is. A selection of beer and wine is available.

Practical Notes

The restaurant serves all three meals, which matters when you're returning from a full day in Bryce Canyon and the park's dining options are closed or crowded. Tropic is a short drive from the park's UT-12 corridor — plan on about 15 minutes from the main visitor area. The outdoor patio is a good option on warm evenings; seating fills up during peak summer season, so arriving a bit before typical dinner hour (before 6 PM) helps. The restaurant's Yelp listing notes it was temporarily closed as of early 2026 — confirm hours before visiting.

We drove 40 miles before we found an open restaurant and our experience at Rustler’s was worth the wait. The breakfast was delicious: the veggie omelet was perfectly cooked with tons of sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms. I ate it with a slice of sourdough toast and saved the other slice for butter and jam as I finished my coffee. Renee was a great server. This place is worth the stop. There’s a grocery store attached and a gas pump out front in case you need anything else for the road.

Best veggie omelette I’ve ever had! The steak from the steak and eggs plate was very high quality. Delicious!!!
