Burgers and burritos, 11 miles from the park
Route 12 Grill is a casual counter-service spot on Main Street in Tropic, about 11 miles east of Bryce Canyon National Park. It covers two distinct menus — hand-pressed burgers and homemade Mexican food — making it one of the more versatile quick-stop options along this stretch of Scenic Byway 12. The format is fast-casual: order at the counter, customize at the condiment bar.
The Mexican side of the menu includes street tacos, smothered burritos, California burritos, enchiladas, rice bowls, Southwest quesadillas, and nachos — all built with house rice and beans, and your choice of chicken, steak, or veggies. The burger side features hand-pressed patties; a notable option is the Bryce Canyon Sunrise burger, topped with a fried egg and ham. A condiment bar lets you add lettuce, tomatoes, grated cheese, onions, jalapeños, and other toppings.
The grill also serves made-to-order breakfast: burritos, sandwiches, pancakes, and omelettes. For hikers heading to the park early, this is a practical pre-dawn fuel option in a town with limited morning dining.
Located at 50 S Main St in Tropic, the grill is easy to spot from Highway 12. Hours close in the early evening, so plan accordingly if you're returning late from the park. Tropic also has a small grocery store nearby if you need supplies beyond a meal.

I’ve eaten thousands of hamburgers in my life and can honestly say, their’s is one of the best. Fresh patties of beef cooked to order. Excellent! Thank you for taking pride in your product.

The food was very good. I like how you can put on your own fixings for your sandwich. The staff was very nice.
