Escalante Outfitters is a one-stop hub on Main Street in Escalante, sitting on Scenic Byway 12 about 50 miles east of Bryce Canyon National Park. The cafe and bakery is part of a larger operation that also includes a gear shop, tiny log cabins, a campground, and guided tours — but the food side earns its own following among hikers and road-trippers passing through.
Cafe and Bakery
Breakfast leans toward housemade baked goods: specialty breakfast rolls, quiche, and baked oatmeal, alongside an espresso bar pulling drinks with organic fair-trade beans from Utah roaster Caffe Ibis. Later in the day the kitchen shifts to fresh-made pizza built with natural and local ingredients where possible, plus gourmet sandwiches and salads — options like smoked trout, tomato-mozzarella, and BLT with applewood-smoked bacon. Desserts are made from scratch daily. The cooler stocks what may be the largest selection of Utah micro-brew bottles in the area, and local drafts are on tap.
More Than a Cafe
The attached gear shop carries maps, books, and supplies for Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and Boulder Mountain trips. Staff can give practical route advice — useful when you are heading into the backcountry and cell service disappears. If you need to stay the night, seven small log cabins and tent camping sites are available on the property, along with showers and a coin-op laundromat. For travelers driving Highway 12 between Bryce and Capitol Reef, this is the most logical resupply and regroup stop in Escalante.
