Blue Crow Gear & Gifts

Canyon-country outfitter with gear, gifts, and espresso

(171)
Escalante, UT

About

Blue Crow Gear & Gifts sits at 325 W Main St in Escalante — the same storefront that operated for years as Utah Canyon Outdoors before rebranding as it entered its tenth year. The new name nods to the pinyon jay, a year-round Colorado Plateau resident sometimes called the 'blue crow.' The rebrand didn't change the function: this is the go-to outfitter and gift shop for anyone heading into Grand Staircase-Escalante or the surrounding canyon country, about 35 miles west of Bryce Canyon.

Gear and Gifts

The shop carries a curated selection of hiking, backpacking, camping, canyoneering, and travel gear — practical stuff for real trips, not souvenir-grade equipment. Alongside the gear, the shop works with independent artists and makers to stock handmade jewelry, prints, notecards, and souvenirs tied to the region. If you need a last-minute trekking pole or want to bring home something made by a local artist, this is the right stop.

Coffee Corner

The in-store Coffee Corner serves organic, fair-trade espresso drinks, frozen fruit smoothies, and blended coffee milkshakes. A patio with native plantings out front makes it a reasonable place to sit and plan a route over a cappuccino before heading into the backcountry.

Practical Notes

Located right on Main Street, Blue Crow is easy to spot and easy to park near. It doubles as a local information resource — the staff know the terrain and can help you think through conditions and logistics for canyon trips.

Stopped here for coffee and smoothies and we’re not disappointed! Super yummy espresso shakes. Great selection of outdoor gear and the historic wood work upstairs is incredible. Friendly and helpful staff! Would stop again next time we make our way to Escalante!

Stopped on a whim for coffee. The staff was SO friendly and helpful. Gave great recommendations for hikes in Capitol Reef. They had lots of niche brands and items you usually need to go to an REI or other outfitter to find. Great place to stop for gear, caffeine, and advice.

Best coffee and smoothies in town! Also the large chocolate chip cookies were divine… I’ve been thinking about them ever since we left and I’d love to know the secret recipe. They also offer gear, hiking food, personal care items, local jewelry and art, and other unique things to peruse. The owners are lovely people and will always try and talk with you about local trails etc. It’s worth a stop (or three;)) anytime you’re in town!

Small store but a huge selection of high quality outdoor gear. Very helpful and friendly staff. Don't forget to check out the upstairs! Oh and the espresso is great too!
